Snake Road Field Trip

October 20, 2012
1:30 pmto4:30 pm

Tony Gerard will be our guide as we walk Snake Road at the base of the bluffs adjacent to LaRue Swamp in the LaRue Pine Hills Natural Area. Each year snakes that have been feeding in the swamp during the summer months return to their winter dens in the bluffs. The road, which is closed to vehicular traffic each spring and fall to protect the snakes as they cross, provides a wonderful opportunity to observe these beautiful creatures.

Collecting of any kind is prohibited — we will be looking and admiring only! For more information on this unique area download this flyer from the Shawnee National Forest.

We are planning on meeting at 1:30 pm at Winters Pond (north end of Snake Road). Email or call Ann at 618-564-2079 for additional details.
