Shawnee Audubon Society holds meetings six times a year. We also offer field trips several times a year.
Our summer meetings are held at War Bluff Valley Sanctuary, Golconda, IL. Follow Rte 146 north out of Golconda for 3.5 miles to Bushwhack Road (look for brown & white Wildlife View Area sign); turn left; follow Bushwhack for 2.3 miles to Sanctuary entrance on right; follow driveway past caretaker's house all the way back to Kestrel Hall located in the metal pole barn.Winter meetings are held in Carbondale at the Carbondale Township Hall, 217 E. Main Street.

Join us at Trail of Tears State Forest for the 8th Annual Hummingbird Festival. Learn all about our ruby-throated hummingbird while you watch our expert bird bander capture and band these tiny little feathered jewels. Adopters might even get a chance to hold and release "your" bird. You'll have an opportunity to "adopt" a hummingbird, with all proceeds going to the Illlinois Audubon Society land acquisition fund. There will also be various workshops, presentations, and kids' activities to participate in, plus hummingbird feeders and other fun hummingbird merchandise to purchase.

Hummingbird Festival!The Festival will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Trail of Tears State Forest is located south of Alto Pass and north of Jonesboro on State Forest Road just off Hwy. 127. Follow the State Forest Road to the west until you reach the large pavillion.
This event is fun-filled and educational for the entire family! From butterflies to beetles, there will be an opportunity to get up close and personal with all types of insects -- including a chance to try eating some! Mark you calendars now so you won't miss this popular event.Starting a 3 p.m. at War Bluff Valley Sanctuary there will be a host of fieldtrips, workshops, and activities to participate in, followed by a scrumptous potluck supper, a Really Cool Raffle, and music and sillyness with RognBob.
Notice to parents and guardians -- kids love to catch and examine acquatic critters -- so be sure to bring a change of clothes and shoes for your young ones.

War Bluff Valley Sanctuary Stewardship Day

Stewarship Day at War Bluff Valley Sanctuary is the 2nd Saturday of each month. Stewardship Day is a great way to see the Sanctuary, meet new friends, get some exercise, and enjoy the great outdoors. Meet at the Sanctuary around 10 a.m. Bring work gloves and a sack lunch -- water, coffee, soft drinks and snacks are provided.
