Upcoming events

April 23- Field Trip to Cave Valley near Pomona with the focus on warblers. Participants should meet in the parking lot of Pomona fire station/community center at 9 a.m. From there we will move on to the old fire road and walk an easy flat trail. The trip will conclude before noon and is open to the public. Bring binoculars, bug spray and dress for the weather. Call 618-564-2079 for further information or questions.
May 6th and 7th – Statewide Spring Bird Count. The Shawnee Chapter does a bird survey of Pope County. Participants are to identify species and count their numbers in assigned areas. Call 618-564-2079 for assignment. It is a 24 hour count but we will welcome anyone willing to survey for at least three hours. We can count either day but not in the same area. Feeder watchers are welcome to participate if they live in Pope County but call first for instructions. Results are sent in to the Illinois Natural History Survey for compilation.
June 25 – Field Trip to Wildcat Bluff near Vienna with focus on breeding birds. Participants are to meet in the parking lot for Wildcat Bluff at 9 a.m. This will be a moderate downhill trip to Boss Island and back up. Trip will conclude around noon. Bring binoculars and dress for the weather. Call 618-564-2079 for directions or questions.

Mermet Lake birding, March 25, 5PM

An evening field trip to Mermet Lake with the focus on waterfowl on March 25. Participants are to meet at 5 p.m. in the Bluebird Trail parking lot. Bring binoculars and dress for the weather.
