Recently retired and missed Festival. Could you suggest a good basic book concerning humming birds for a beginner?
    Thank you!

    • Hello Karen, I asked our birding chair your question and here is her reply: I don’t have a particular book for beginners because what we get here is just the ruby-throated. so a computer search will help with that. I do have a book by Sheri Williamson that is part of the Peterson Field Guide series called Hummingbirds of North America. It has nice distribution maps but the pictures of the different species are small. It does have pictures of immatures vs adult field marks, however that is getting out of the beginner range. There are also a lot of notes about description of species, feeding, behaviors and habitats, also for more advanced watchers.

I would get another book if I was traveling to New Mexico or Arizona to look for hummingbirds.

Thank you for visiting our site and hope your interest in birding grows.
